As a machinery designer
I was involved in this project as the main person in charge of machine design. Since the equipment for this project was a large-scale production line, which was inestimable based on my experience, I got quite nervous whether I could work through as the main person in charge.
While I worked as the main person in charge, a project team was created in our company. Many members across departments joined the team and were divided into each part to work on the project. Since a system to follow up issues at all times was established, we could ultimately design a product that we are proud of.
For the test operation, normal equipment requires two engineers, but in this project, five mechanical engineers and four electrical engineers were involved. So, you can easily imagine that the equipment was so large, compared with that we are usually ordered. Moreover, with the cooperation of the customer, we could successfully complete the test operation.
Furthermore, as an unusual experience, when I visited the customer’s site for the test operation adjustment, all of the related people joined the customer’s year-end party. That was a memorable event. It was a year-end party of the customer, and about 500 people joined the party. Since I do not usually attend such parties hosted by customers, I was given a wonderful opportunity.
One of the difficulties was to coordinate a large number of people involved in this project working on the large equipment.
Finally, this project entailed not a few special things. I think we could accomplish the job because all of us (including the customer, our company, and other related parties) helped and supported each other. I was just worried at the beginning but it was good at the end.
